The finale of the Scout Season this year was a camp for the older boys at Tipperary Wood Scout Campsite in Newcastle, at the foot of the Mournes. Primarily planned to be a Canoe Expedition weekend, at the last moment some unplanned hiccups meant we had to find a campsite and settle for a days canoeing / kayaking on the River Quoile instead .
Special thanks to Davy for organising the borrowed equipment and trailer to transport the gear. Several hours were spent practising paddling skills and rescue techniques from capsizes. It’s fair to say the water was so lovely that more time was spent in it rather than in the boats!
After a tiring days activities, followed by cooking dinner and a trip to Maud’s in Main Street, everyone settled down to spend a few excellent hours craic at the campfire. Several talented guitarists took it in turns to enter us with their extensive repertoire of musical talent. Packing up on Sunday , everyone headed for home and a well earned rest over the summer after another packed year of Scout activities.
