Sunday 28th February 2010 will live long in the memories of 10 Scouts and 2 Explorers who finally completed a 5 month long period of tutored instruction to earn their British Canoe Union Paddlepower 4 qualification & Canoeist Activity Badge. Spending most Sundays throughout the long winter practising their Kayak & Open Canoe Skills was very tough and cold at the time, but everyone agreed it was well worth the time and effort when they finally got to run the rapids with the River Lagan in challenging flood conditions.

Supervised throughout by the professional coaches of Mobile Team Adventure, every single paddler successfully negotiated the entire course and stepped out dry at the bottom of the course. John Hubbucks , a fellow Scout and owner of MTA , presented each of the young people with their Paddlepower qualification and Scout activity badge.

In return , he and his assistant were presented with specially designed Jordanstown Canoe patches to enrol them as honorary members of a very select club. Training will continue throughout the next few months in preparation for a three day Canoe expedition by this group in late June , organised by the Scouts , Explorers and Leaders of St.Patrick’s Scouts …
