Codename: Project Golden Arches

Last Friday night the Scouts went on a mystery Navigation exercise.

Starting in the pitch black of Loughshore Carpark at Whiteabbey , they followed various routes on the magnified maps using only head torches and eventually found their way to Gideon’s Green, along the Coastal Path.

Pausing for breath , they were then informed of the true objective of their navigation mission – to find the Golden Arches and claim their prize.

Mission accomplished , they worked out an alternative route home and it was back to the rendezvous for collection by parents at 21:30 hrs.

St Patrick’s Scout Leaders on Top Secret Training Mission for Next Years Outward Bound Activities

In order to take the Scouts on many of the adventurous activities in our programme, the Adult Leaders need to successfully complete competency assessments and revceive the relevant permit certification to show they have fulfilled the demanding requirements of the Scout Association.

Bout Ye! This is Belfast calling and the results in from the Nor'n Ireland Jury are.......

A group of leaders from 1st Jordanstown  spent all day Sunday 3rd January in the High Mournes, taking in the scenery and  demonstrating navigation skills in very demanding conditions, as part of their permit award for Mountain Leader / Hillwalking group Navigation.

When questioned afterwards about growing rumours in the area that hot on the heels of last years successful expedition to Switzerland, this years planned expedition was either to reenact the first successful navigation of Canadas North West Passage or Scott’s ill fated Expedition to the South Pole, the Scout Leaders refused to comment on the subject. Further rumours that the Top Secret Training Trip might be linked to a surprise bid on behalf of the Scouting Association’s Northern Ireland Branch to host a future mini Scounting Winter Olympics Competition only added to the air of mystery surrounding the trip.
